Sacriston is a former mining village located approximately four miles north-west of Durham in the heart of County Durham. Rich in history and community spirit, the village developed during the nineteenth century around the coal mining industry, which played a significant role in shaping its character and identity. Although the mines have long since closed, Sacriston remains proud of its mining heritage, which is reflected in local landmarks and memorials throughout the village. Today, Sacriston is a thriving community with a range of local amenities, including schools, shops, community facilities, sports clubs, and green spaces. Sacriston continues to celebrate its past while looking towards the future, making it a vibrant and valued part of County Durham.
